JBL Blogs About Who Should Be Inducted Into The WWE Hall Of Fame

WWE announcer John “Bradshaw” Layfield has posted a new blog on his Facebook page looking at who he thinks should be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in April. Here’s what he wrote:

“Interesting viewpoints on WWE Hall of Fame for 2013. I do believe the NWO should eventually go in, I don’t know if this year is the year-but they had the greatest story line in wrestling history and think they are deserving to go in as a faction.

The NWO wasn’t together that long, but when you have the greatest impact in wrestling history I think it merits an induction. Many forget during that time WWE was losing the ratings battle and did so for almost a year, this ushered in the Attitude Era which I still believe was wrestling’s greatest era.

Owen Hart, Bruno Sammartino and Randy Savage are no brainers and feel they all will go in at some point.

Mick Foley is the other NY guy that is obviously worthy and hopefully goes in the hall in NY. Booker T is a Hall of Famer, but don’t know if NY is the place for him to go in-would be great to see him go in when Wrestlemania is in Houston, Dallas or San Antonio-but don’t know when that will be.

I believe Trish Stratus is a Hall of Famer and several from that era are as well-I think Sable and Torrie will one day go in, probably. Remember they were both at one time the highest selling Playboy issue on their respective covers. All of those divas from that era, including Stacey Kiebler transcended our business and became mainstream. ”

* The Latest On Who Is Being Considered For The 2013 WWE HOF Class

Latest Names Being Considered For The WWE Hall Of Fame, Reaction To Chris Benoit’s WWE Encyclopedia Entry

– With next year’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the company plans to pay homage to the famous area.

Besides Mick Foley likely being enshrined, there is discussion of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) and Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray) being inducted, according to F4WOnline.com. Johnson made his debut at the famous arena in 1996, while Harlem Heat was a New York-based gimmick. In the case of The Nasty Boys, who hail from Allentown, Pennsylvania, the two were billed from “The Streets of New York City” during their time in World Championship Wrestling.

Company officials would also like to honor Owen Hart, who defeated Bret Hart in a memorable WrestleMania match at Madison Square Garden in 1994. Despite the push for Owen, the enshrinement is unlikely to materialize because his widow would not allow it. Hart’s brother Smith revealed on Twitter earlier this year, “Because she blames the wrestling business in its entirety for his death. “She is the sole owner of his estate. With Martha, there will never B a way, perhaps his kids may eventually make the choice. But thats at least 20 yrs in future.”

Plus, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events, is said to “desperately” want Bruno Sammartino enshrined, but it’s considered a long shot for a multitude of reasons.

– Though WWE has attempted to distance themselves from Chris Benoit since his career and life ended in a murder–suicide on June 24, 2007, the recently released WWE Encyclopedia features a sizable entry on the late wrestler. According to F4WOnline.com, this move has many people in WWE “baffled,” with his entry taking up more than half of a page.

The bio acknowledges Benoit emulating Dynamite Kid after seeing compete when he was 12-years-old, training in Stu Harts’s famous Dungeon, wrestling all over the world, making a name for himself in WCW before jumping to WWE, and fulfilling his destiny when he captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XX in a Triple Threat Match versus Triple H and Shawn Michaels. There is no acknowledgment of the double murder/suicide, though he is addressed in the past tense.

– Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ranks among “Hollywood’s Best Actors For The Buck.”

Forbes published an article Wednesday ranking stars that offer Hollywood the best return on their investment and it is estimated that the actor/wrestler returned $22.70 for every dollar he was paid for his last three starring roles. By comparison, Natalie Portman, the best investment of 2012, drew 42.70 times what she was paid. Overall, Johnson ranked No. 8., also trailing Kristen Stewart ($40.60), Shia LaBeouf ($35.80), Robert Pattinson ($31.70), Daniel Radcliffe ($30.50), Taylor Lautner ($29.50) and Bradley Cooper ($25.00).

Big Update On Randy Savage & The WWE Hall of Fame

According to a high level source in WWE, Randy Savage is “off the list” for this coming year, since his brother Lanny Poffo told WWE that one of Randy’s last wishes was that the Poffo family would have to be inducted all together.

Lanny re-asserted this claim during a recent “shoot interview,” which made WWE Chairman Vince McMahon tell the writing staff “we don’t negotiate things like that.”

WWE feels its audience wants “the WWE Macho Man Randy Savage” inducted into the Hall of Fame, not “Randy, Lanny, and Angelo Poffo as a family unit.”

According to a key insider in WWE, a recent discussion with the writers led to the writers being told “we’re passing on Lanny’s claim, and so Randy will have to remain out for now.”

We’re told as far as WWE is concerned, while they want Randy in the Hall of Fame, they will not induct Savage the way Lanny Poffo is demanding.

Doctors Not Allowing Lilian Garcia To Fly To WWE Shows, Photo Of Stacy Keibler At The Dead Sea In Israel

SmackDown ring announcer Lilian Garcia participated in WWE.com’s Live Chat for Survivor Series Sunday night and said she has not returned to shows after being struck by a car Oct. 27 in Los Angeles, California, because doctors are prohibiting her from flying at this time. She does not know when she will return to events as she is still rehabbing her neck and back.

Garcia also said she was flattered by WWE Champion CM Punk remarking at THQ’s WWE ’13 roster reveal at SummerSlam Axxess in August that he would induct her into the WWE Hall of Fame next year—leading Jim Ross to immediately snark that the induction could take place “at the Marriott.”

“I will never forget CM Punk recently saying that he feels I will eventually be a Hall of Famer. That was a very big compliment! Hope it comes true!!” she said.

– Former WWE Diva Stacy Keibler vacationed in Israel last week and tweeted the following photo of herself at the Dead Sea.

WWE HOF Class Of 2013 Contenders, Vince & Others Visiting Troops Overseas

– Vince McMahon, along with The Miz, Eve Torres, Layla and R-Truth will be going overseas in December to visit military bases. Footage of the trip will be used for the upcoming Tribute to the Troops special.

– Top names being discussed for the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013 include The Rock, Mick Foley, Owen Hart, Bruno Sammartino and Ultimate Warrior. Both Sammartino and Warrior have turned down multiple offers to be included, however there’s hope that a deal can be made with one of them.

Randy Savage remains a long shot, mostly because his family is claiming Randy wanted the entire Poffo family inducted together (Brothers Randy Savage and “The Genius” Lanny Poffo, along with their father Angelo Poffo), like WWE did with the Von Erich family.

Celebrity inductees being talked about include Cindy Lauper and Mr. T, who were both involved with the first WrestleMania from Madison Square Garden, the site of next year’s ceremony.

Internal Push For Owen Hart To Be Inducted Into WWE Hall of Fame, Watch 3MB’s Entrance Video, Jimmy Hart

– In an update on WWE’s plans for its Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 6, 2013 at Madison Square Garden, Mick Foley is internally considered a lock to be enshrined and there has been a push for Owen Hart to be honored since his star rose with his classic match against Bret Hart at the venue at WrestleMania X.

Despite the push for Owen, the enshrinement is unlikely to materialize because his widow will not allow it, according to brother Smith Hart.

“Because she blames the wrestling business in its entirety for his death,” he stated on Twitter in February. “She is the sole owner of his estate. With Martha, there will never B a way, perhaps his kids may eventually make the choice. But thats at least 20 yrs in future.”

Meanwhile, talk of Ultimate Warrior being inducted into the Hall “has cooled down substantially of late,” according to F4WOnline.com.

– WWE has released 3MB’s entrance video.

– According to WrestlingFigs.com, Jimmy Hart appears at Pro Wrestling World in the Merchants Square Mall 1901 S. 12th St. Allentown, Pennsylvania on December 2, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, call 610-798-9900 or e-mail prowrestling1@aol.com.

WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2013 Update, WWE Unhappy With Tampa DUI’s

– WWE is currently working on lining up names for the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013. As of this writing, the only person who is considered a lock is Mick Foley.

Following up on our report earlier this week that WWE is interested in bringing in Floyd Mayweather, Mr. T, Pete Rose and Jenny McCarthy for WrestleMania 29, Mr. T is considered a likely inductee to the celebrity wing of the Hall of Fame, playing off his connection to the New York City area and his involvement in Wrestleania 1 from Madison Square Garden.

– WWE officials remain very frustrated and with the string of DUI arrests in the Tampa area involving their performers, with Brodus Clay’s dancer Cameron being the latest offender. When WWE has talked about moving its developmental system from Tampa to Stamford, Connecticut, one selling point to this scenario is that Stamford is much less of a party city and the feeling is that talent will have less of a chance to get into trouble there.

Andy Kaufman Rumored For WWE HOF, Coach-Grisham, Brodus Clay’s Movie

– Former WWE announcers Jonathan Coachman and Todd Grisham will host ESPN’s SportsCenter once again tonight at 8PM ET.

Picture of Coach & Todd Grisham Hosting ESPN’s SportsCenter

– There is some talk in WWE that late comedian Andy Kaufman could be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame next year. Aftr his attack on Jerry Lawler at the end of last week’s RAW, CM Punk tweeted that his attack was for Andy Kaufman. On RAW, Kaufman was mentioned during Punk and Lawler’s in-ring promo.

If Kaufman is part of next year’s class, that would eliminate any chance of Randy Savage being inducted next year, since WWE is sensitive about inducting more than one deceased person per year.

DreadCentral.com has an article up looking at the WWE Studios horror movie, No One Lives, featuring Brodus Clay. The sysnopsis reads:

“A ruthless criminal gang takes a young couple hostage and goes to ground in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. When the captive girl is killed, the tables are unexpectedly turned. The gang finds itself outsmarted by an urbane and seasoned killer determined to ensure that no one lives.”

Update On Next Year’s WWE Hall Of Fame Class & Another Rumored Incutee

With WrestleMania 29 weekend now less than 8 months away, WWE is currently discussing candidates for the 2013 Hall of Fame Class. We previously reported that top names being considered for next year’s class are Mick Foley, Bob Backlund, Kevin Nash and The Ultimate Warrior. Add former WWE superstar JBL to that list.

Mick Foley, a New York native on good terms with WWE, is considered a lock for next year.

Bob Backlund has turned past offers to be inducted, but considering his recent cameo on WWE television (wrestling Heath Slater on RAW), the chances of him being inducted are better than ever.

Kevin Nash, who won the WWE Championship at MSG (from Bob Backlund, in 8 seconds) went on a Twitter rant back in April, saying that the WWE Hall of Fame means nothing to him:

“HOF means nothing to me,If I Die before it I,ve asked my wife to pass.Nothing against it or WWE,but if Pete Rose ain’t in cooperstown. Just don’t need it to validate my life.I wake every morning to the sight of the ocean.

The Ultimate Warrior’s rocky (and litigious) past with WWE has been well-publicized over the years and he’s still considered a long shot. That said, the Royal Rumble takes place from where he lives (Phoenix, Arizona), which would make for an ideal setting to announce Warrior’s induction.

JBL is on great terms with WWE and currently working with the company on his “Seven Summits” mountain climbing adventure. With his storied career and transition to announcer of SmackDown, it’s just a matter of time before he’s a Hall of Famer.

News On WWE’s 2013 Hall Of Fame Ceremony: Rumored Inductees, Drama With MSG

It was recently announced that the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 6th from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Despite the fact that WrestleMania 29 is being billed as taking place from “NY/NJ”, WWE has reportedly had some issues regarding holding the HOF ceremony from New York City, due to their agreement with the state of New Jersey regarding where WrestleMania-week events will be held.

It’s no secret that WWE was pushing hard for Bruno Sammartino to be the top name inducted into the Hall of Fame next year, but at this point, there’s virtually no chance of that happening. Other names discussed for next year’s class include Bob Backlund, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash and the Ultimate Warrior.

Tensions between Warrior and WWE have died down lately and the two sides are currently on the best terms that they’ve been on in several years. Getting Warrior to agree to work with WWE again for the first time since 1996 would be seen as a huge deal for WWE, he is notoriously difficult to work with and there is always the risk that they come to an agreement, WWE announces Warrior’s involvement and then the two sides have another falling out.

Update On Bruno Sammartino Rejecting WWE’s HOF Offer

As previously reported, WWE recently reached out to wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino about headlining next year’s WWE Hall of Fame class. Sammartino’s camp issued a statement to the Wrestling Observer on Monday night confirming that Bruno was contacted – and is not interested.

The Observer is now reporting that Triple H recently called Bruno Sammartino and tried convincing him to accept the offer. Because Sammartino has bad blood with Vince McMahon, Triple H told him to not worry about Vince and to think about his legacy and educating today’s audience about his legendary career.

Bruno was reportedly not impressed with Triple H’s efforts.

Legend Rejects WWE Hall of Fame Invite, Maxine Looking To Act

– A report credited to the Wrestling Observer Monday stated that WWE officials are interested in having Bruno Sammartino headline next year’s Hall of Fame class. In regards to the report, wrestling convention promoter Sal Corrente issued the following statement on behalf of the legendary grappler to PWInsider.com:

“We understand that word has broken on the Internet regarding “The Living Legend” Bruno Sammartino being inducted in to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. Since word has broken publicly, I can confirm that we have been contacted. I have been asked by Bruno Sammartino to announce that he will NOT be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.”

– Following her departure from WWE last week, Maxine has changed her Twitter handle to KarleeLeilani. She is also representing herself under her real name, Karlee Leilani Perez. She wrote “Hell yeah” in response to a remark that she no longer has to call herself Maxine and can now be her “true self.”

The former WWE Diva has indicated on the account that she plans to pursue an acting career.

– WWE announced Monday via Twitter: “Check in TONIGHT for @WWE #Raw on @GetGlue to get your FREE @RealKellyKelly #DivaSummer Series Sticker! wwe.me/bY9il.”

Bruno Sammartino Contacted For 2013 WWE Hall Of Fame

WWE is reportedly interested in wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino being the headline inductee for the 2013 Hall of Fame Class.

According to f4wonline.com, WWE has already reached out to Sammartino, but no word yet as to whether the 76 year old former WWWF champion is interested.

Sammartino has been very outspoken against Vince McMahon and WWE since the two sides had a bad falling out in the late 1980’s.

WWE has reached out to Sammartino several times over the years (DVD projects, Hall of Fame, etc.) but so far, he’s been unwilling to bury the hatchet and has wanted nothing to do with WWE.

Another name discussed for the 2013 Hall of Fame is Rena “Sable” Lesnar, wife of Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar’s Entourage At WrestleMania, Mike McGuirk Backstage

— F4WOnline.com reports Brock Lesnar and his “large entourage” left their hotel a few hours ago for Sun Life Stadium. The website speculates that he may be in a private meeting as his entourage is there but he has not been seen.

— Mike McGuirk, who worked as a ring announcer for the World Wrestling Federation from 1987 through 1993, is backstage at Sun Life Stadium. She works as a real estate agent in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her son Max was under developmental contract to WWE in 2009 and 2010.

Carlos Colon, father of Primo and uncle of Epico, is also backstage. He attended last night’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.

— Last night’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will premiere tonight in the United Kingdom at 10:00 p.m. on Sky 3. It airs tomorrow night in the United States at 8:00 p.m. on the USA Network.
