WWE Network Shutting Down As Netflix Steps Into the Ring

WWE is making significant changes to its content distribution starting January 1, 2025. The WWE Network streaming service will cease operations in international markets, with Netflix becoming the new exclusive home for WWE content outside the United States.

International viewers will have access to WWE’s full programming slate on Netflix, including flagship shows Monday Night RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. The streaming platform will also carry Premium Live Events (PLEs) such as WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, and SummerSlam, along with select historic content.

In the United States, the distribution model will be split. While Peacock remains the exclusive home for WWE PLEs, Monday Night RAW will transition to Netflix, with its first episode scheduled for January 6, 2025.

As this major shift approaches, details regarding the extent of historical content availability on Netflix are still emerging. The move represents one of WWE’s most significant changes in content distribution strategy, with more information expected to be revealed as the launch date nears.

Statement sent to WWE Network Subscribers:

On January 1, 2025, WWE Network will no longer be available in your area. After January 1, Netflix will be the new exclusive home of WWE.

Netflix will bring WWE’s electrifying content all to one place, including weekly shows, Monday Night RAW, SmackDown, and NXT, PLUS Premium Live Events (PLEs) such as WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, and SummerSlam.

Many of WWE’s top moments, along with historic PLEs and select programming, will be available on Netflix beginning January 1.

The premiere live episode of Monday Night RAW on Netflix airing on January 6 will feature some of the biggest names in WWE such as John Cena, Undisputed WWE Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Bianca Belair, in addition to many other Superstars and guests including Travis Scott.

How to Watch WWE Money in the Bank 2024

United States

In the United States, WWE Money in the Bank 2024 can be streamed live on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.

What is Peacock?

Peacock is a streaming platform created by NBCUniversal. It features a wide range of content, including exclusive access to NBCUniversal movies and shows such as new Universal films like “Night Swim” and classic sitcoms like “The Office.”

Peacock also offers original series including “Poker Face,” “Twisted Metal,” and “Ted,” live sports like Sunday Night Football and WWE events, as well as daily news broadcasts from NBC News and MSNBC.

Peacock Plans and Pricing

There are two main subscription plans for Peacock. The Premium plan costs $6 per month and is ad-supported, with an annual plan available for $60.

This plan includes access to Peacock’s entire content library, next-day streaming of NBC shows, select live sports, and WWE events.

The Premium Plus plan, priced at $12 per month or $120 annually, is ad-free and includes all the features of the Premium plan, plus live access to your local NBC station and download support for offline viewing.

It’s worth noting that prices will increase on July 18, 2024, to $8 per month for Premium and $14 per month for Premium Plus, so it is worth getting in on the cheaper option while you can.

Where to Sign Up and Watch

You can sign up for Peacock through the Peacock website.

The streaming app is available on various platforms including iOS and Android devices, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, Xbox One, PlayStation, Chromecast, Xfinity, and Flex devices.

Content Library

If you think that signing up for just WWE might not be worth it, then Peacock offers over 80,000 hours of on-demand TV and movies, including classic shows like “The Office,” “Law & Order,” and “Parks and Recreation.”

New episodes of NBC and Bravo shows are available the day after they air, offering another reason to pay the monthly charge (that comes in a lot cheaper than old school cable bills).

The service also features new Universal movies after their theatrical run and licensed content from other studios like Warner Bros. and Sony.

Peacock Originals, such as “Bel-Air,” “Bupkis,” and “Based on a True Story,” are also available. Additionally, Peacock provides live sports coverage, including NFL games, Premier League matches, and Major League Baseball.

WXW Exits WWE Network

German wrestling promotion Westside Xtreme Wrestling’s contract with WWE expired on May 30, at which time WXW content will no longer be accessible on WWE Network. According to PWInsider, it was a case of their agreement expiring and not being renewed.

WXW was the last remnant of independent wrestling content on the WWE Network. Besides WXW, some of the other independent wrestling content on WWE Network included shows from Evolve, Progress Wrestling, and Insane Championship Wrestling.

A subscription model which would include independent shows was in the plans for the streaming service, but it didn’t come to fruition. Instead, content from Progress and WXW was added via VOD to the Network and Peacock.

So where can you watch WXW programming now? The promotion will stream its events on YouTube going forward. The company would also be free to secure deals with other streaming providers after a long time, so we could potentially see WXW on some other streaming platform soon.

The latest event from the promotion is wXw Drive of Champions 2024, which is set to take place on Saturday, June 1. NJPW TV Champion Jeff Cobb will be at the event facing Mike D Vecchio.

End of the WWE Network: Streaming Service to Be Absorbed By Netflix Next Year (Report)

The era of the WWE Network will seemingly come to an end next year as part of the promotion’s lucrative deal with Netflix.

This week, WWE and Netflix confirmed a deal that will see Monday Night Raw move to the streaming juggernaut. The deal, valued at over $5 billion, will last for ten years, though Netflix has the offer to end the deal at the five-year mark or extend it past ten years for another decade.

The End of the WWE Network?

For fans outside the United States, they will receive Raw, SmackDown, WWE NXT, and Premium Live Events as part of this deal. This has raised questions about the future of the WWE Network, which fans outside the U.S. currently use for said shows. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that Netflix will take up the brunt of the workload.

”For most of the world, they’re going to be taking over the WWE Network. The WWE Network itself, that exists outside the United States, that will be folding at the end of the year and Netflix will pick up the content.

“So a lot of people have asked will they pick up all the content? All the archives? I don’t know. But they will be the sole source of that, the archival content of all the old territories and all the old stuff that was on the old WWE Network. That will, that will move to Netflix outside the United States in January.”

Meltzer then looked at WWE’s relationship with Peacock, where the WWE Network in North America currently resides. Meltzer wouldn’t be surprised if this also falls under Netflix’s watch when the time is right.

“When the Peacock deal is up, if Netflix were to get that, that’d be interesting to see how much more they would pay. Obviously, it’s a $200 million deal per year deal right now. So that’s the next deal. That’s coming up.”

Raw will move to Netflix in Jan 2025, but their deal with the USA Network will expire in September 2024…

Another Long-term Employee Gone From WWE

The internal restructuring in WWE seems to still be going at full pace as another long-term employee has left the promotion after over a decade.

According to reports from PWinsider, long-time executive Amanda Tustian who was working as the Director of OTT (Over The Top) Content Operations left WWE yesterday. Though there is no word on the reason behind her departure.

The female executive had been with the promotion for almost 12 years. She was hired back in February 2010 as the Creative Writing Assistant.

In her role, Tustian assisted the creative vice presidents of Raw and SmackDown. She also handled the travel logistics for a team of 14 employees.

She was appointed the Talent Development Coordinator in October 2011. She stayed in this role till August 2013 and helped with various tasks concerning talent recruitment. This included booking extras for events.

This trend of changing responsibilities continued throughout her career. Amanda Tustian was finally promoted to the role of WWE Director of OTT Content Operations in September 2020.

Tustian’s LinkedIn profile mentions that in her last role, she oversaw the launch of WWE Network on Peacock. She helped migrate over 14,000+ hours of content and metadata to the NBCUniversal-owned streaming service.

Update Regarding WWE Network Moving To Peacock

WWE announced a major deal this week. The WWE Network in the United States will be moving to NBC Universal’s Peacock streaming service in March. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the deal has been in the works for months.

WWE hired Nick Khan as President and Chief Revenue Officer in August. “The deal started in talks almost exactly after Khan took over as President of WWE,” wrote Dave Meltzer. “Nick Cordella, the Chief Revenue Officer at Peacock congratulated Khan on his new job the day it was announced, and in his next message, told him, ‘Let’s talk.'”

Khan replaced George Barrios and Michelle Wilson in his role as President and CRO. Barrios and Wilson had both played a major role in the development of the WWE Network. They were promoted to co-Presidents in 2018 and then let go in 2020.

Khan spoke with the Wall Street Journal about the deal. He noted that it will create new WWE fans by exposing the product to potential new consumers.

“As you said, if it is only on WWE Network and you are not a fan yet, why would you subscribe to that?” Khan said. “This gives a chance to win people over when it is right in front of them and the hope is there is a trickle down effect to Raw and SmackDown and ultimately to ticket sales, once that is happening again, merchandising, etc.”

WWE Network Employees Blind-Sided By Deal

A WWE employee who has worked on the WWE Network sent a statement to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. According to the comments by the [anonymous[ employee, WWE staff were blind-sided by the deal and fear for their jobs. A portion of the letter is below:

“Myself and my team were completely bulldozed by the press release about Peacock’s streaming rights to WWE Network in the U.S.,” noted a Wrestling Observer source within the WWE Network. “

“We just had an all employee meeting last week and there was zero indication that this would be happening. And while I’m here, I’ve also heard internally that they’re pointing the finger at social media for poor ratings.”

Backstage Reaction To WWE Selling Network Streaming Rights To NBCU

News broke on Monday that WWE and NBCU had reached a streaming rights deal to the WWE Network in the United States that will see all WWE programming – PPV events, archives, and new series – move to the Peacock service come March 18th.

Fightful Select has some notes on the backstage reaction to the news. One WWE star said they hadn’t heard of the news before it broke and said the company’s profit would be massive. The first impressions were the additional eyes on the product with this new deal.

Another wrestler stated they didn’t care where the shows aired, but would if it affected their pay. There is no negativity among those in WWE but did consider it a big move for the company.

Talks about such a move to a different streaming service have been ongoing since last January. Fightful notes they were not able to confirm that one of the companies was Peacock at the time. ESPN had been one of the players in these talks.

Several people within the company said they actually expected a move much sooner than this, but understood it was easier said than done from a negotiating standpoint.

This topic was also discussed by Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Live this afternoon.

It was also reported that the move to Peacock caught the WWE Network employees off-guard and word is that WWE Network employees did not know about the actual move to Peacock as of one week ago.

ESPN To Stop Airing WWE Content After Peacock Deal

ESPN is not thrilled about WWE inking a streaming rights deal with NBCU so they’ve made the decision to stop airing all WWE content.

This topic was discussed by Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Live this afternoon. The deal will see all WWE programming that had been on the WWE Network in the United States move to NBCU’s Peacock streaming service this March.

It was stated that speculation about how NBCU trying to acquire SmackDown would be justified now that NBCU has signed the WWE Network for Peacock. Of course, NBCU owns the USA Network, the home of Raw, and previously had the rights to SmackDown before WWE inked a big-money deal with FOX.

It was noted that the idea of NBCU trying to get back the rights to Smackdown wouldn’t be far-fetched or even the possibility of NBCU trying to buy WWE due to them already paying TV rights to Raw and now with the WWE Network programming.

Once Alvarez remarked that this new NBCU – WWE deal for Peacock is a good sign that Disney, the parent company of ESPN, not trying to negotiate a sale of WWE right now, Meltzer indicated there are issues between WWE and ESPN.

The belief is ESPN was a significant part of the WWE Network talks before WWE decided to ink a deal with NBCU. Over the years, there have been rumors of Disney being interested in buying WWE. ESPN found out three weeks ago that they were not getting the WWE Network deal.

Meltzer added that ESPN has “pretty much shut down” any WWE coverage and won’t air any WWE content on their networks going forward.

Last February it was rumored WWE and ESPN had talked about potentially moving pay-per-view events to the ESPN+ platform. The COVID-19 pandemic shut down that.

Stephanie McMahon Addresses WWE Network Moving To Peacock

Stephanie McMahon sent in a letter to SEScoops addressing the blockbuster news that the WWE Network is moving to the Peacock streaming service (in the United States).

WWE executives have not addressed the financial terms of the agreement, but the Wall Street Journal and Sports Business Journal are reporting that the 5-year agreement with NBC Universal is expected to generate a more than billion dollars in revenue for WWE.

You can read Stephanie McMahons letter on the WWE Network Peacock deal below:

Good morning,

I’m excited to share that this morning WWE and NBCUniversal announced a multi-year agreement that will make Peacock the exclusive home to WWE Network in the United States.

WWE was one of the first to launch a SVOD service, WWE Network, in 2014 to super-serve our most passionate fans with WWE’s most premium content as well as an incredible library of in-ring and original programming that has grown over the last seven years. Since launching last year, Peacock has amassed an incredible catalog of iconic movies and TV shows, along with the best of live news and sports, to which WWE Network will be a perfect complement.

WWE and NBCU have been partners for nearly 30 years, and we consider this to be a natural extension of our long-standing relationship. Peacock will enable WWE to showcase our most significant events, including WrestleMania, which was previously available on WWE Network for $9.99 per month, to Peacock’s 26 million subscribers for $4.99 per month and for free to the millions of Comcast and Cox homes across the country, helping to better serve and grow our global fanbase.

We are thrilled to bring WWE Network to Peacock beginning March 18, and to continue to create best-in-class sports entertainment content that will not only put smiles on people’s faces, but provide our fans with an experience worthy of their passion.

WWE Sells Network Streaming Rights To NBCU

WWE and NBC have announced a huge multi-year deal. The WWE Network will move to NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, beginning on March 18th, 2021 in the United States. The move will take place 3 days before the Fastlane PPV on March 21st. This will not impact WWE Network subscribers outside the United States.

The deal will see the cost of the network drop from $9.99/month to $4.99. Subscribers will also gain access to the rest of NBC’s library. An ad-free version of the service is available for $9.99. In a press release sent this morning, WWE noted that details regarding the migration of customers from one service to the other will be forthcoming closer to March.

WWE Sells Network Streaming Rights To NBC Universal

“We are thrilled to further the long-standing and trusted partnership WWE has with NBCUniversal,” said Nick Khan.

“NBCUniversal has a long-standing relationship with WWE that began nearly 30 years ago with Monday Night Raw on USA. WWE has always tapped into the cultural zeitgeist with spectacular live events and larger-than-life characters, and we are thrilled to be the exclusive home for WWE Network and its millions of fans across the country,” said Rick Cordella, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer, Peacock. “WWE Network is a transformative addition to the platform and complements Peacock’s massive catalog of iconic movies and shows, as well as the best live news and sports, from NBCUniversal and beyond.”

There had been rumors WWE was looking to sell the rights to the Network before the onset of the global pandemic. Vince McMahon spoke about the company’s options during the Q4 earnings call in 2019.

“There’s no more better time to exercise the selling of our rights to all the majors who, quite frankly, all the majors are really clamoring for our content,” McMahon said. “So that could be a significant increase, obviously, in terms of revenue.”

Steve Austin’s “Broken Skull Sessions” Returning This Weekend

Steve Austin’s “Broken Skull Sessions” interview series will return to the WWE Network this weekend.

WWE Network Adding EVOLVE, PROGRESS, wXx & ICW Content This Weekend

Indie content is coming to the WWE Network this weekend.

WWE announced today that shows from EVOLVE, PROGRESS, wXw and ICW will premiere on the WWE Network this Saturday, August 15th. These are shows that have already taken place over the past few years.

WWE recently purchased the EVOLVE promotion and tape library, and content from that promotion includes The Best Of Keith Lee In EVOLVE and The Best Of Drew McIntyre In EVOLVE. wXw’s Femme Fatales 2019 and AMBITION 11 events will be available. Shug’s Hoose Party 5 – Night 2 will be available from ICW, and Chapter 92 will be available from PROGRESS Wrestling.

WWE pushed that the wXw content will feature current Superstars such as Timothy Thatcher and WALTER, while Chapter 92 from PROGRESS featured names like Toni Storm, Pete Dunne, and Ilja Dragunov, among others. WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett is featured on Night 2 of Shug’s Hoose Party 5.

It’s been rumored that WWE planned to introduce outside content to the WWE Network for the past two years, and now the additions have been confirmed for this weekend. It’s likely that the non-WWE libraries will be updated in the future.

R-Truth Reveals More Details on New WWE Network Game Show

These would include his mini-feud with Rob Gronkowski over the 24/7 title and his brand new game show format that will be coming to WWE Network on July 14th.

The R-Truth Game Show

“This game show is like, no other game show” R-Truth revealed on the show. “I got a whole cast, a whole crew man has helped me put this thing together.”

R-Truth elaborated further, saying “a lot of my ingenuity goes with it. As a matter of fact?, I keep a count of the points. There’s a lot of prize and prizes that I’m giving away so a lot of laughs. What you’re gonna see, who knows?”

WWE Network Free Version Is Live

The free tier of WWE Network is finally here.

After months of rumors, WWE has finally confirmed the launch of a free tier for the WWE Network via a press release on their official website this morning.

The free tier will allow fans to access more than 15000 WWE titles without the requirement of a credit card and it’s available on all platforms via the WWE Network app.

“WWE today unveiled the Free Version of WWE Network, the company’s award-winning digital streaming service, unlocking a vast portion of its content library with more than 15,000 action-packed WWE titles now available for free.”

The available programs in the free tier will include latest episodes of Raw, SmackDown and NXT, as well as selected WWE PPVs alongside the usual content available on the company’s YouTube channel such as Top 10 videos and WWE’s The Bump.

Apart from this, the company has also confirmed earlier rumors of the return of Raw Talk, the aftershow for the company’s flagship Monday Night program.

The free tier of WWE Network had been rumored for a while and the company had also hinted at the possibility in previous earning calls but they hadn’t announced any timetable for the same.

Now this announcement from the promotion is surely going to create a buzz among the WWE Universe and it will be interesting to see what other content is available on this tier for the fans.

WWE Reportedly Wants To Acquire Indie Promotions’ Tape Libraries

WWE is looking to acquire tape libraries from US indie promotions for its streaming platform, WWE Network.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is reaching out to indie promotions to acquire their tape libraries. The company wants to stream indie wrestling content on its streaming service.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time a situation like this has been teased. In the past, there have been similar reports of the company wanting to get libraries indie promotions like Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW), PROGRESS, and EVOLVE on WWE Network.

WWE had even surveyed Network subscribers on their opinion of wanting indie wrestling content on the streaming service.

Vince McMahon has said that “transformative changes” will be coming to the WWE Network. WWE is looking at ways to further grow and monetize their content. The company has said that there is a lot of interest from other parties for licensing and partnering with them.

Vince McMahon has said that the company is in talks to sell the rights to its PPV events to another major streaming service. During the Q4 2019/FY 2019 earnings conference call, McMahon said that they have a lot of options and they would continue as they are now with a free tier and a more enhanced paid tier for the WWE Network. He added that there is no better time than right now to sell the rights to the majors who are “clamoring for our content,” since this would add a significant increase to WWE’s revenue.

If PPV content is taken off of WWE Network, then the company would need some additional content for its subscribers, as live PPVs are one of the major selling points of the Network. That’s where indie wrestling content comes in.

McMahon has said that if a deal is made, they will be announcing it in the first quarter of 2020. “That’s how far along we are,” he noted.

WWE Network Free Tier Content Now Available

WWE has updated its streaming service, WWE Network, that saw the quiet launch of the free content tier.

A tier price plan has been something that WWE has talked about for years and now the first vase of that has been introduced.

Now, fans who don’t have a subscription to the WWE Network have the ability to watch certain videos on the service. Most of the videos can also be found for free on WWE’s YouTube channel.

This comes after a report by PWinsider.com about the free tier system being introduced and how videos will change over time.

Right now, WWE Top 10, WWE Network Pick of the Week and various full matches are available for free. For subscribers who are interested in seeing what the free tier system looks like, just simply sign out of your account.

WWE Co-President Shares Plans For WWE Network Tiered Content System

WWE Co-President George Barrios spoke to The Verge about its streaming service in September where he broke down what the price tiers would look like:

Free: This will offer the same free-to-watch videos you’d normally find on WWE.com. Barrios said WWE might also offer timed previews of paid WWE Network content.

Regular: The standard WWE Network experience, combining free content with subscription benefits like live pay-per-views, on-demand streaming, and original programming.

Premium: “We think there’s also an opportunity to super-serve our most passionate Network subscribers with a premium tier that’ll bring together more content for them, more features for them, and also integrating some of our other non-video services like our commerce — potentially integrating something like free shipping, bringing together our digital ticketing efforts in there. It becomes the one place to experience everything WWE,” Barrios said.

WWE Co-President Shares Plans For WWE Network Tiered Content System

WWE Co-President George Barrios spoke to The Verge about its streaming service, WWE Network, and the changes that are coming.

In the interview, Barrios stated that a major integrated experience is coming soon, in weeks and not months. He brought up how he wants their free content and premium subscription content to be in one place on the WWE Network. He stated that the content you can access just depends on what level member you are.

He also noted that they have bigger ideas for the network including a premium subscription plan that could add exclusive content, as well as potentially ticketing and merchandise components. The Verge listed the following breakdown for the tiered system:

It should be noted that Barrios didn’t disclose how much WWE would charge for the premium tier.

Back in July, WWE revealed a number of changes to the streaming service. This included a new interface.

The top tier is said to include access to alternative promotions. It’s well known that WWE has had previous discussions with notable independent companies about potentially airing their events and adding their tape library to the WWE Network. These promotions include EVOLVE, PROGRESS and ICW.

WWE released the following video showing off the latest changes to the Network’s overhauled interface, which is going live this week across digital platforms:

WWE Announces Changes To WWE Network

WWE has announced that they will be bringing some changes to their WWE Network streaming service this week.

The changes are said to be mostly related to the user interface. Apparently, it will feature a new design with simpler navigation and smarter search tools.

Network Changes

In WWE’s statement, they highlighted that subscribers will need to log in with their email addresses and passwords the first time they use the updated WWE Network. They will have to do this with every device they intend to use with their WWE Network account.

The promotion stressed that you do not need to set up a new account to use the updated network. Fans should continue using their current WWE Network email address and password.

They then highlighted that the update will apparently be done in stages. It will take effect on different devices at different times during the week.

Network Originals

The WWE Network originally launched in February 2014. In between its archival content, live broadcast, and pay-per-views, it has also hosted a plethora of Network-specific events.

One such event is this Saturday’s Smackville show which takes place from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

This show is headlined with a triple threat for the WWE Championship. Defending champion Kofi Kingston will be challenged by both Samoa Joe and Dolph Ziggler.
