WWE Network App Being Removed From Several Platforms

WWE has sent an email out to their Network subscribers confirming that several platforms will no longer hold the WWE Network app. There are a number of older devices that will no longer be supported and the streaming app will be removed.

WWE has explained that because manufacturers have stopped updating the operating system of older products, it could impact the ability to stream high-quality video. Just some of the devices that will no longer offer the WWE Network app are PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows 10 Desktops, Sony Blu-ray players, Samsung Blu-ray players, 3rd generation and earlier Apple TVs, Amazon Fire Tablets and others.

Below is WWE’s announcement with the full list of devices that will no longer offer the service:

Our goal is always to provide you with the best possible viewing experience on WWE Network. Unfortunately, several device manufacturers have stopped updating the operating system of older products, which may impact your ability to stream high-quality video. WWF Superstars Coming To The WWE Network

If you are a fan of old-school WWF and long for a time that WWE shows weren’t two/three hours a piece, then you’ll be happy to know that the WWE Network will be adding new classic content for January. This includes WWF Superstars.

Formerly known as Superstars of Wrestling, this latest addition to the WWE Network will feature episodes of Superstars from April 1992. The reason for this specific date is due to a range of legal issues regarding the name Superstars of Wrestling. The trademark to that name does not currently belong to WWE, and so the company is unable to upload any footage featuring the Superstars of Wrestling branding. The Network has previously released clips relating to the promotion, but have done extensive work to remove all visual and audio references to the name.

At the time, Superstars was considered WWE’s A-show, in the same way that Raw is today.

These episodes will arrive on Monday 21st of January. According to WWE Network News, we can expect over 30 episodes to be released. It is unclear whether they will all be uploaded on Monday or whether they will deliver them in a staggered release.

Are you looking forward to rewatching WWF Superstars? Will you be watching it for the very first time?

Kota Ibushi Match Being Added to WWE Network

WWE Network will be adding an intriguing bout to the ‘Hidden Gems’ section next week. WWE Network News reported that Kota Ibushi vs. Bobby Roode will be added to the streaming service. The match will be added on January 3rd, a day before New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom show. Ibushi will of course be defending his NEVER Openweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom against Will Ospreay.

The bout took place during an NXT House Show in 2016. The Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California hosted the match on October 30th, 2016. The video is listed as being 22 minutes and 16 seconds long, so it could well be a decent match. A triple threat match featuring Shinsuke Nakamura will also be added next Thursday. Nakamura defended his then NXT Championship against Samoa Joe and Eric Young.

Here’s the full lineup of matches that will be added next week:

  • Antonio Inoki vs. Larry Sharpe (Showdown at Shea, August 9, 1980)
  • Jerry Lawler & Greg Gagne vs. Riki Choshu & Mr. Saito (AWA, May 14, 1988)
  • Sting vs. The Great Muta (WCW Power Hour, September 1, 1989)
  • Shinjiro Otani vs. Dean Malenko for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship (WCW Worldwide, May 18, 1996)

WWE Working On Becky Lynch Network Special

It appears that the WWE will be releasing a documentary on their current SmackDown Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the WWE has issued a film crew to follow ‘The Man’ this past week for an apparent Network special. There has been no confirmation as of yet if this will be a new episode of ‘WWE 365’ or potentially for their ‘WWE Chronicle’ show.

365 vs Chronicle

WWE 365’ documents a year in the life of a specific superstar. These episodes grant fans a unique insight into that performer. Conversely, ‘WWE Chronicle’ is much more of a story driven, in-character focused offering.

It will be interesting to see which of the two the Becky Lynch documentary will be.

The recent filming included her appearance on ‘Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.’ Their discussion ranged from her popularity within WWE and Conor McGregor, to Nia Jax breaking her nose.

‘The Lass Kicker’ defends her championship gold this Sunday at WWE’s December event, Tables, Ladders and Chairs. She will be facing off in a triple-threat matchup against Charlotte Flair and Asuka in the first ever Women’s TLC confrontation.

Which show are you hoping this special is for? Are you looking forward to its debut?

WWE Reportedly Tests New Production Crew As Part Of Plans For A Tiered WWE Network

We noted before how WWE was planning an upgrade to WWE Network and finally introduce the tiered system which has been talked about multiple times in the past. Now it appears that the company is making some serious moves for this. According to a report from Pwinsider, the Officials tested a new production crew to record last night’s Live Event dubbed as a super show from Boston, Massachusetts.

This production crew was reportedly smaller than the ones they generally use. They didn’t utilize their usual production truck for the event either.

They will also film out next month’s Starrcade event for a similar purpose and test out this smaller production crew once again.

All this is part of the effort to produce more original content for the WWE Network and air the Live Shows under the new tiered system of the on-demand service.

For those who don’t know, it was reported recently that Vince McMahon was overseeing plans for a tiered WWE Network, now that the new TV deals are in place.

These plans might see the company finally implementing the multi-plan system allowing users to choose from a free and multiple paid versions of the Network Subscription.

The Network is expected to include more original content with the increasing tiers, including access to footage from various indie promotions as well as more original content from the company like new shows and tapings of Live Events.

Possible Changes For The WWE Network On The Way

The WWE Network has been running for about four years now and while content new and old has been added to the titular streaming service, it seems that more features will be added to in order to gain new subscribers.

Similar Hulu Structure Service

With the television deal with Fox now in the books. WWE is planning on revamping their Network similar to a tier pricing plan like Hulu’s. The concept has been considered for a few years now and WWE is planning on making the changes in the not so distant future. Vince McMahon himself is said to be leading the project.

A survey from WWE back in 2016 was given to fans on what kind of streaming structure tier would interest them if WWE were to change the Network.

Here are the 4 Options WWE presented during the 2016 Survey:

Plan One  – Free

FREE, featuring five hours of archived material, five-minute video clips, and a 24/7 live stream that would feature WWE content without PPVs, NXT and the Cruiserweight Classic. The idea would be that this would be a free service, featuring commercials, that would be available to watch on all devices. Think Hulu’s free content without a subscription.

Plan Two – $4.99

Priced $4.99 a month would feature the WWE Network as it currently exists, with the exception of NXT and its Takeover specials, would feature limited commercials and access to only the “Big Four” WWE PPV events. The tier would also feature a VOD proponent that would add all new WWE “live events” (assuming this would mean Raw, Smackdown, etc.) 30 days after they air. This content would only be available for those watching via phones and tablets.

Plan Three  – $9.99

Priced at the still-current WWE Network price of $9.99 would offer the WWE Network as it currently exists, except WWE NXT would air live every week (similar to how Raw and Smackdown currently air). This would also have limited commercials.

Plan Four  – $14.99

Priced at $14.99, this version would feature a commercial-free version of the WWE Network with all the current bells and whistles, a live version of NXT, a weekly Cruiserweight Classic series, and “access to independent wrestling content such as TNA & Ring of Honor” plus additional “Fan Perks” including early ticket ordering access, the right to vote in the WWE Hall of Famer, “offline” content download, small group online chats, exclusive second screen content and invites to exclusive in-person VIP meet-ups.

It will be interesting to see how the WWE will restructure their Network in order to keep up with the ever-changing demand for streaming services.

Vince McMahon Overseeing Plans For A Tiered WWE Network

We have been hearing about WWE possibly implementing a tiered system to WWE Network and adding footage from Independent promotions for a while now, but it appears that the company is finally working towards these changes seriously.

Per PWinsider, with the new TV deals in place, Officials are now focusing on further developing the Network, with Vince McMahon, alongside Kevin Dunn and company’s Chief of Staff Brad Blum overseeing the whole process.

According to reports, the officials including McMahon are working to tweak the company’s strategies for original programming, in order to implement their long-planned tiered system to the streaming service and bring other interactive aspects to it.

They have plans to develop the Network in a similar way to how Hulu’s streaming service operates currently, where you can pay extra for commercial-free programming and exclusive shows.

Could WWE Offer Multiple Plans For Network?

The details of what plans they may offer are not available right now. However, in 2016 the company had discussed the idea of a 4-plan system ranging from free to $14.99 per month.

The free plan would have offered 24/7 live stream that would feature WWE content without PPVs, NXT and the Cruiserweight Classic, plus five hours of archive footage.

The progressive plans would have then added more exclusive shows with the $14.99 version providing a commercial-free experience and access to all the programming available on the Network, including footage from Indie Promotions like EVOLVE and Progress Wrestling.

In the past year, WWE has sent out some surveys, scouting possibility for more original programming like Southpaw Regional Wrestling and the upcoming Hardy Compound special and it’s believed that they will continue this effort.

While there is no solid word on when these changes may take effect, Officials are apparently hoping to lock their strategies within the next month and implement them at the start of next year, possibly around the time of WWE Network’s 5th anniversary in February.

This will be Undertaker’s fourth match of the year as he normally wrestles once a year. The first being Wrestlemania 34 against John Cena. WWE Network Promotes Impact Wrestling’s Streaming Service (Photo)

WWE fans were talking about what was shown on the latest episode of Table for 3.

In case you haven’t seen the show on the sports entertainment company’s streaming service, WWE Network, the show is about WWE superstars from the past and present sit down to dinner and reminisce about their careers.

This week’s episode of the series, which was the start of season 2, featured Kurt Angle, Shane McMahon, and WWE Champion AJ Styles. During the episode, WWE used some old footage of Styles and Angle from their time in TNA. WWE advertised Impacts ‘Global Wrestling Network App’ as a tradeoff for using the footage, as seen here:

Unlike in the past, WWE is no longer against either mentioning or using footage from other wrestling promotions. They even interviewed former TNA President Dixie Carter for an episode of WWE 24 that was about Angle’s return to the WWE.

Cena took to Twitter to post a workout video of himself, taking a shot at Undertaker in the caption:

– Former SmackDown Live Tag Team Champion Big E took to Twitter to reveal the terrible gimmick idea he pitched nine years ago. He called it Mel Mann, who’s character was supposed to be a postal worker:

WWE Planning To Film Three Different Documentaries At WrestleMania

It looks like WWE is planning on filming three separate WWE Network documentaries during WrestleMania 34. Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer reports that the first one is likely to be a WWE 24 episode on WrestleMania 34 itself. This will likely be made up of backstage footage, as is per usual for similar documentaries WWE has already produced. The second documentary will document The Undertaker’s comeback to “The Show Of Shows” for his match with John Cena.

Although the match has yet to be announced on WWE TV, it’s still expected “The Deadman” will be returning this year to challenge “The Leader Of The Cenation.” Taker was featured in the WrestleMania 33 documentary last year and it showed some out-of-character comments from him about returning to the ring and mentioning that he doesn’t want to be a shell of his former self. It’s possible the documentary focused on The Undertaker could feature a lot more of the same, and include some workout footage from the Texan’s training as well.

The third and final documentary being worked on, as some of you may have guessed, is based on Ronda Rousey’s WWE in-ring debut at WrestleMania. Rousey will be teaming up with RAW General Manager Kurt Angle against the team of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in a Mixed Tag Team match. It will be extremely interesting to see how Rousey acts backstage before making her highly-anticipated in-ring debut on professional wrestling’s biggest show.

There was also a mention that WWE could be filming a Table For 3 special as well, and that Rousey has been pitched to appear on one of these. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more…

Dana Brooke Honors Her Late Boyfriend (Video), NBA Star and Boxer With WWE Stars (Photos)

– A new episode of WWE 24 airs this Monday after Raw on the WWE Network and it gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match. Here is the synopsis:

“Female Superstars are redefining sports entertainment with groundbreaking matches and the addition of Ronda Rousey to a star-studded roster.”

WWE has released a teaser clip of Dana Brooke honoring her late bodybuilder boyfriend, Dallas McCarver, who died suddenly on August 22, 2017.

Last March, Brooke and McCarver both competed in the 2017 Arnold Classic. To honor McCarver, she incorporated a small piece of McCarver’s posing trunks from the event by having it stitched onto her ring gear for the Women’s Royal Rumble Match. She had WWE seamstress Terry Anderson make the piece look like a dumbbell and have it placed over her heart.

On her tribute, she tweeted the following:

According to Medium.com, an autopsy determined that McCarver died after an unwitnessed cardiac event contributed to by of combination of coronary atherosclerosis (a buildup of plaque in the arteries) and an enlarged left ventricle (a thickening of the heart muscle that causes it to work harder). McCarver had a family history of cardiovascular disease including both hypertension and atherosclerosis.

– New York Knicks player Enes Kanter attended Friday’s WWE live event at Madison Square Garden in New York City and posed for photos with WWE stars backstage, including Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, The New Day, and John Cena.

Michael Conlan, an Irish professional boxer from Belfast, was also backstage (as seen here in this photo with Finn Balor).

WWE Game Show Coming To The Network?, Tim Tebow Comments On XFL

– The New Day’s Xavier Woods recently took to Instagram and posted a video of himself, Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Renee Young popping balloons on what looks like the set of a game show. The set featured a WWE Network sign and a podium that says “Who Knows?” Check it out here:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Be6b-MKhNqD/?utm_source=ig_embed

– Ex-NFL quarterback Tim Tebow recently did an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Off The Board and was asked about Vince McMahon’s XFL relaunch. During the press conference last month McMahon mentioned that he’d be open to having Tebow play for the league. When asked if he’d consider the opportunity, Tebow said he isn’t sure at the moment as his primary focus is playing baseball with New York Mets:

“That’s very nice of him, but 2020 is a long way from now,” Tebow said. “I’m focused on today, I’m focused on spring training and a lot of things before that. I’m not even close to thinking about that right now.”

When prodded for a “yes or no” answer, Tebow had this to say:

“What if it’s a ‘I have no idea?’ That’s in 2020 and I’m super excited about baseball.”

Goldust Asks Mandy Rose Out On A Date (Video), WWE Network Classic Content For March

– According to PWInsider.com, the next series of classic content to be added to the WWE Network will be episodes of WWF All-Star Wrestling. The series will be added to the Vault section next month.

WWF All-Star Wrestling was a syndicated show that consisted of top-tier or mid-card talent defeating enhancement talent (jobbers) and at times a “feature” match between main WWF talent. The show ran from May 20, 1972, through August 31, 1986, at which point it was replaced by WWF Wrestling Challenge.

– The Tampa Bay Times has a story on Titus O’Neil wanting to inspire kids with Black Panther, the latest Marvel superhero movie set to hit theaters Feb. 16.

“I’m 40 years old and I’ve never seen a Marvel character that looked like me, as an African-American male,” O’Neil said.

“This will be the first time I’ve seen a superhero on screen that looks like me and I want kids to not only be able to see superheroes on the screen but also to view themselves as superheroes.

“If they see that on screen, then maybe they can be the next doctor or lawyer or president, whatever they can be. This could be a great teaching moment if we can get them into theaters.”

Goldust introduced Rose as his new partner last Tuesday after Alicia Fox was forced to pull out due to injury. Goldust and Rose face Naomi and SmackDown Tag Team Champion Jimmy Uso this Tuesday in Week 4 of Mixed Match Challenge.

Bayley Says ‘It’s A Good Thing’ She’s On WWE Main Event, More WCW Content Coming To WWE Network

– Prior to last Monday’s Raw in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bayley wrestled at a WWE Main Event taping for the first time in her career. Taking on Sonya Deville, who was accompanied by Paige and Mandy Rose, Bayley scored the win.

Some fans see this as a demotion for the former Raw Women’s Champion since WWE Main Event is a secondary show and generally features mid-to-low card Raw wrestlers not involved in storylines. Bayley, however, considers it ‘a good thing’ that she’s on WWE Main Event.

In response to the criticism, she tweeted the following on Thursday night.

– According to a report by F4WOnline.com, “a lot” of episodes of WCW Saturday Night will be added to the WWE Network in April.

WCW Saturday Night was a weekly Saturday night television show that aired on TBS. Launched in 1971 by Georgia Championship Wrestling, the program existed through various incarnations under different names before becoming WCW Saturday Night in 1992. The program would air through August 2000.

WWE Network Classic Content For February Revealed

According to both WWENetworkNews.com and PWInsider.com, the next series of classic content to be added to the WWE Network in February will come from the Coliseum Video collection.

According to PWInsider, 38 videos will be uploaded to the WWE Network during the first week of February.

Before WWE formed WWF Home Video in 1997 (now known as WWE Home Video), an independent company known as Coliseum Video handled their video distribution. From 1985 through 1997, Coliseum Video released VHS and Betamax cassettes featuring World Wrestling Federation action in the following categories:

* A series of “Best of” cassettes featuring classic matches, both recent at the time and from as far back as the 1960s. Many of these releases included title changes that occurred since completion of the previous volume.

– Profiles of wrestlers highlighting their best matches and moments in the World Wrestling Federation. Some of the wrestlers profiled include Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, Demolition, George “The Animal” Steele, and Ken Patera.

– Compilations featuring rarely seen or exclusive matches that took place at television tapings and televised house shows.

– Pay-per-view events (many of which are available for viewing on the WWE Network).

This content dump has been planned for a while, although there was talk of adding episodes of WCW Thunder (WCW’s B-show that aired from 1998 through 2001 on TBS) in February since Buff Bagwell and Raven’s lawsuit over WWE Network royalties got dismissed last month. The lawsuit led to WWE delaying Thunder and WWE Sunday Night Heat uploads to the Network, but the door is now open for episodes from both series to be added.

PWInsider also reports that the frontrunner of classic content for March are old episodes of All-Star Wrestling, which aired on syndication from 1971 through 1986. This program consisted of top-tier or mid-card WWF wrestlers squashing enhancement talent, as well as a “feature” match between main WWF wrestlers.

WWE Network Special on Kevin Owens Airing This Week

A WWE 365 special will be airing this Sunday immediately following Survivor Series. The episode will feature former WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens.

Speculation surrounding Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has been ramping up recently with reports of the WWE locker room being upset with the duo becoming more commonplace. Owens and Zayn were recently sent home from WWE’s tour of Europe early and Owens has had a public back and forth with Randy Orton on Twitter.

Whatever the backstage/locker room is situation with Owens, it is clear that the company are still backing him and with this new feature show there is a very good chance that Owens makes an impact at Survivor Series this Sunday.
