Update On WWE Network Live Streaming Issues, More On Dish Network/WMXXX

– As far as WWE is concerned, they have not had any issues with live streaming on the WWE Network since the NXT Arrival show. While some have complained about issues, the company has not heard of any significant issues related to their streaming of the recent live editions of WWE Main Event.

– The following form letter is being sent out to Dish Network subscribers who have been asking about the availability of the WrestleMania XXX pay-per-view this year:

“Please note that WWE is not willing to adjust PPV costs to satellite/cable companies, which is unfair to their customers. DISH needs to re-focus efforts to support partners that better serve DISH customers and other satellite/cable companies, including DirecTV, have also expressed they may no longer provide WWE PPV events in the future.”

  • WWE Looking To Get RAW & SmackDown Replays On The WWE Network

WWE executive George Barrios stated at the annual ROTH Conference that one of the key factors in the negotiations for WWE’s new cable television home is the replays for RAW and SmackDown. Barrios noted that the company is wanting to get availability in airing the replays to both shows on their own WWE Network subscription service, something that their deal with NBC Universal currently doesn’t allow (within a 30-day period). Basically put, WWE wants to shorten that window of time.

Speaking of the WWE Network, the company issued a mass e-mail today informing fans who had ordered the network but canceled their subscription, that they can come back and get another free week if they sign up by Saturday, March 22nd.

  • Jim Cornette Speaks On His Hatred For Kevin Steen, Bad WWE Booking, Kevin Dunn

The following are highlights of a recent Ask Me Anything Reddit chat with legendary wrestling manager Jim Cornette:

On if he’s spoken to Ed Ferrara since his “Oklahoma” parody character on Jim Ross: “I saw him in Nashville in 2002–I had promised the promoter I wouldn’t punch him, but I didn’t promise I wouldn’t try to get HIM to punch ME first–I told him what I thought of him for doing that to JR and I spit in his face in front of 30 witnesses, and the gutless pussy did nothing. That’s what he deserved for making fun of a near career-ending disability suffered by a guy who has more talent in his finger than Ferrara in his whole body, he should have never been allowed in our business in the first place. If anyone sees him, tell him Jim Cornette STILL says he’s a gutless sack of shit.”

On his thoughts on Colt Cabana: “Colt is a fine mid-card wrestler, an average look and an oK at best promo, he was perfect for WWE and I have to assume he pissed someone off there–he was NOT a fit for ROH as we were trying to present an athletic, serious, credible style of pro wrestling and funny doesn’t draw money. We didn’t offer him a contract because he didn’t fit those plans, and he has made a big deal out of it, we never said this publicly until he made it an issue-personally, I don’t think his comedy is funny and I don’t think anyone trying to make a career in pro wrestling should make fun of it at the same time, a la his bullshit “$5 wrestling” with the asshole who runs Highspots. I have no use for that type of horseshit.”

On why Kevin Steen hates him so much: “Because I got him a raise, a contract renewal, Visa paid for, a 9 month undefeated run with the World Title and tons of TV time, even after he refused to lose weight to get the spot, so you tell me.”

On his thoughts of WWE deciding to air Chris Benoit footage on the WWE Network: “He was a great talent, a wonderful friend and a fine human being who for some reason or combination of reasons went insane and did horrible, unforgiveable things in the last two days of his life–you can’t erase him from history, but if anyone would confront it we might learn something to prevent it from happening again.”

On Kevin Dunn: “I don’t think about Kevin Dunn, the wrestling fan’s worst enemy, so I can sleep at night–I take comfort in the fact that ebveryone else who knows him hates him too.”

On the worst booking decisions ever: “The Brawl for All tied with Austin hugging McMahon at WM17 that led to the collapse of the entire business.”

She is honestly one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. With her background and status, she has a lot of influence and power but she proves that you can never allow fame, money or your position in life to get the best of you. • 5 Ways To Improve the WWE Network

Last Monday at 9am, the WWE Universe collectively transformed into a congregation resembling something out of AMC’s the Walking Dead, sporting a nearly insatiable appetite that could only be fulfilled by consuming massive amounts of classic wrestling.

However, many realized they would be going to bed hungry, as the website’s launch was anything but smooth and the Network was inaccessible for most and laggy for those who were lucky enough to reach the Promised Land (I’ll reluctantly refrain from making an Obamacare joke).

After several apologetic e-mails, it seems most of the kinks have been worked out. With that said, there is certainly room for improvement, despite the fact that the Network is a great value at only $9.99 per month. Here are five possible ways to improve the WWE Network.

    1. Netflix-esque Queue

This would be a very convenient feature, as it would allow for viewers to save their favorite pay-per-views and other episodes into a queue for easier access. It isn’t imperative right now, but after more content is added, it would be nice to not have to browse through the entire library to find a particular episode.

Instead of having to remember which WrestleMania Rewind episode was viewed last or where one left off on their third time through the invasion angle, users could simply add the unviewed episodes into an organized queue for quick, easy access.

    2. Save Viewing Positions

I said the queue is not currently imperative; this feature without a doubt is. As I was watching last week, the site repeatedly crashed and I had to find my position again while using a navigation bar that was far from accurate. Needless to say, I spent more time wanting to bodyslam the clunky interface than I did watching in-ring action.

They have made it a bit easier by adding various checkpoints on the navigation bar to show where the matches begin and end, but it still does not save one’s position after exiting the program. With most pay-per-views clocking in at over three hours in length, it seems reasonable to assume many will not watch the entire thing in one sitting. The ability to simply close out the site and have the viewing position saved (similar to Netflix) would definitely be a welcomed feature.

    3. Broadcast Dark Main Event

During the past few weeks, the RAW post-show has been broadcast live from the arena, and the dark main event has been cut as a result. This past week, they showed what happened after RAW on the post-show with the Big Show and John Cena coming to save Daniel Bryan from the Authority.

I believe they should continue to broadcast the post-show live from the arena, but have the dark main event be featured each week. Sure, it doesn’t always pertain to the storyline, but I don’t think many wrestling fans will complain about additional in-ring action and it could help boost viewership for the post-show.

    4. Push Notifications

Push notifications would provide another way for smartphone users to utilize the WWE App. Imagine having the ability to set a reminder for live events and then have a notification pop up a few minutes prior.

This feature would have been beneficial during last week’s NXT Arrival event, as I was distracted and missed the first few minutes of the event (not that I didn’t miss a good portion of it anyway thanks to a Network malfunction). Push notifications would be useful for Network users because they would provide a simple way to set reminders for live events within the WWE App.

    5. Offline Viewing

I will say right off the bat, this will probably never happen. McMahon and company would be worried about users downloading all of the most desired classics and bolting on the service. There are ways it could work, however.

It would be possible for the WWE to set up a system where one or two events could be downloaded into the WWE App while connected to Wi-Fi and then accessed offline later. If one were hoping to download more events, he or she could simply delete the current downloads and replace them with new items. Urban commuters would benefit greatly from this feature because cellphone service is usually spotty in subway stations and it would provide an entertaining way to kill a boring trip to work.

Ultimately, the WWE Network seems like a great product. The first order of business is ensuring that the service is accessible from all streaming devices in high definition. Afterward, one can only hope that developers will look for ways to improve the user interface. There is no denying the fact that the sheer amount of content is mind-blowingly impressive, but the current design and layout does leave a bit to be desired.

Sound off in the comments regarding your experiences with the WWE Network thus far. What do you love? What do you loathe? What features would you like to see added?

Details On What Happened After Monday’s RAW Went Off The Air

After Monday’s WWE RAW in Chicago, Illinois went off the air, the WWE Network post-show opened with a look at Kane, Triple H and Randy Orton still in the ring standing over a beaten down Daniel Bryan. This led to both John Cena and Big Show coming out to make the save. Cena, of course, came to the ring with a limp, as he is continuing to sell his story line injury.

When the smoke cleared, Orton was left alone in the ring with Bryan, Cena and Big Show. All three guys hit their finishers on Orton and then led to the crowd in a big “Yes!” chant to end the show.

On his “Ringside” shows this past weekend: “My sincere thanks to all the great people who helped make RINGSIDE: An Evening with Jim Ross in NYC a success. We had great crowds at the Gramercy Theater and everyone seemed to have fun. This is a new project for me and one that I’m endeavoring to make better every time out.”

“I know that we will never be able to make everyone happy but I remain diligent to do the best shows that I possibly can.”

On tonight’s RAW: “Should be an interesting RAW tonight from Chicago as it relates to continuing to build WM30. I’m still of the belief that the full card and the ongoing creative for WM30 will remain fluid through the last RAW of the build to the biggest event of the year in WWE.”

“Obviously, many fans are speculating that CM Punk will be back on RAW Monday night from his hometown in Chicago. Whether Punk is back or not, if I’m WWE I’m embracing the opportunity to produce a three hour show in front of one of the most passionate and enthusiastic audiences in the world.”

“Just let things unfold as they will and roll with it, would be my suggestion. To over think how any crowd will or won’t respond is fruitless to my way of thinking. If WWE tries to lead the audience, I’m thinking that will be a mistake.”

On shooting footage for the Paul Heyman DVD and the WWE Network: “Spent approximately three hours doing the Paul Heyman DVD interview in Stamford on Thursday plus some other really cool, WWE Network interviews.”
