Sabu Shares Timeline Of When He’ll Retire From Wrestling

ECW legend Sabu understands that his time in the ring is nearing its end, but he’s not ready to retire just yet. In an interview with Donut Shop Chronicles, Sabu spoke candidly about his future in wrestling. He revealed that he could manage one more year of a demanding schedule or up to two years with a lighter workload, reaffirming his desire to compete in a few more matches.

“I’d like to wrestle forever, but I know I can’t. I’m getting a lot older. Probably another year, maybe two years. I can do another hard schedule for a year. I can do an easy schedule for two years,” Sabu stated.

Sabu has continued to stay active on the independent wrestling scene, making notable appearances with GCW and even stepping into AEW in 2023. One of his most prominent recent moments came when he cornered Adam Cole during his match against Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing.

ECW Legend Sabu Criticizes “Lame” WWE NXT 2300 Arena Tribute

The hardcore icon also shared that GCW hopes to host his final match, a prospect that would provide a meaningful farewell for the wrestling legend. As his retirement draws closer, Sabu remains committed to delivering thrilling performances, ensuring his legacy as one of wrestling’s most enduring figures remains untouchable.

Will Ospreay Calls Himself “Officially Grizzled” After 31st Birthday, Sabu Reassures He Has Many More Years

Will Ospreay may think he old in wrestling, but one ECW legend in Sabu believes the top AEW star is quite far from that.

Ospreay only turned 31 on May 7, and youth is wasted on the young as Will thinks he’s well beyond his years going past 30. The top AEW star made note of his assumed state in the world of wrestling on social media.

“I’m 31 now. I’m officially grizzled,” Ospreay mentioned in a post on X. The Tweet got a kick out of pro wrestling legend Sabu, who reassured Will that he’s got a ways to go before he truly hits grizzled status.

“Officially grizzled? Lol. I wish I wasn’t officially grizzled. Lol you have many more years until you are grizzled.”

Will has basically just started his in-ring career with All Elite Wrestling, but Sabu has had already had some involvement with the promotion. He played a primary role in a program with Chris Jericho almost a year ago at AEW Double Or Nothing. Jericho took on Adam Cole in an unsanctioned match and Sabu played the enforcer of the fight. While he was dressed to the nines, he wasn’t afraid to get physical and did just that to take out Jericho.

Quite the dream birthday present for Will Ospreay would have to be a dream fight against Sabu. The legend actually has been getting himself back into ring shape to have one last match, stating that he’d love to involve AEW regular and best friend, RVD.

Sabu To Be Inducted Into Indie Wrestling Hall Of Fame

As WWE WrestleMania 40 approaches, many independent wrestling events will occur that weekend. One of the events is Game Changer Wrestling and Orange Crush’s annual Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame. The 2024 class on April 7 will highlight several independent wrestling legends like The Briscoes(Jay & Mark Briscoe) and Trent Acid.

On Twitter, GCW has shared that their latest inductee will be former ECW superstar Sabu. The high-flying and risk-taking legend had a long career in the defunct company but competed on the independent wrestling scene for many years. GCW and Orange Crush’s decision could also be due to the event occurring in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where ECW held many events.

Regardless of the decision, Sabu is a great addition to the 2024 Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame class. His style has left an influence in wrestling that has helped inspire others to be as daring as he was in his career. He’s also been honored by GCW over the years and has made appearances for them, including The Wrld On GCW on January 23, 2022

Tickets for the 2024 Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame are still on sale on Eventbrite. The general admission to attend is $25, and the VIP table seating costs $49.99. Both also come with an additional fee for a ticket. GCW has announced that it will stream live at noon ET/9 AM PT on their YouTube Channel for fans who can’t attend.

More On GCW Plans For WrestleMania Weekend

GCW will host 11 shows as part of their Collective schedule from April 4 to April 6. The popular independent company is still finalizing some of the cards, but it’s looking to be an incredible slate of events. One of the notable shows that fans are excited about is Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport X on April 4.

The event will feature several independent talents engaging in a more grappling and hard-hitting match than fans may see in other shows. WWE has gotten involved in the unique attraction by allowing Shayna Baszler to appear and take on Masha Slamovich. A few outlets reported that more WWE talent could appear for GCW and Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport X. However, neither WWE nor GCW has made an official announcement.

The entire GCW Collective schedule will stream live on TrillerTV+, which fans can watch for a 7.99 subscription. Tickets for most of the event are sold out or close to it on Eventbrite. Fans looking to attend one of the shows will have to buy their ticket now as they all may sell out very soon.

Sabu Addresses Current Health & Need For Multiple Surgeries

Sabu has been an integral part of the wrestling industry, although he was always an outlier in many ways due to his extreme nature. Throughout his career, he displayed a distinctive in-ring style, never straying from his innate ability to leave crowds on the edge of their seats with his high-flying moves and risky choices. All of that took a toll on his body over the years.

Sabu Addresses His Current Health

Sabu has competed in various wrestling promotions, with his unique persona and skills standing out for fans. His legacy is marked by years of bloody hardcore wrestling, and his impact on the wrestling landscape continues to this day.

During a recent appearance on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, Sabu opened up about his current health situation. His knee needs some serious work, as does his back and shoulders.

“I’ll tell you, I’ve felt better. I don’t feel really bad, but I feel pretty bad. My knee, my back, and my shoulders, they all need surgery. I’ve been going to the gym lately, but I have to suck it up and go. It’s never, ‘Alright, today I feel good.’ It’s like, ‘fuck,’ and it’s tough… I need my knee and my shoulder replaced, but I haven’t gotten around to it.”

Sabu Wants A Retirement Match

Sabu also stated that he wants a retirement match. This is something that he is apparently working on, and may get that event booked later in 2024. At this time, we do not have any further details.

Sabu’s Recent Career

Sabu has been through a lot in his life, and fans followed him throughout his entire career. The former ECW star has also never fully retired, despite his professional and personal setbacks.

On November 15th, 2014, Melissa Coates began accompanying Sabu to the ring as the “Super Genie.” Those two became quite a pair, in and out of the ring. Sadly, she reportedly passed away in her sleep from COVID-19 complications on June 23rd, 2021. Losing her was a huge blow to his career, as they were booked as a pair for years.

Sabu hasn’t given up on his pro wrestling career yet, and he may have another outing left in him. We will have to see where that match takes place, but he seems to be cooking something up.

“Just One More Pay-Off” – ECW Legend Sabu Hopes to Have Final Match in 2024

Fans will have one last chance to see wrestling legend Sabu in the ring if everything goes to plan for the ECW staple.

Known throughout his career for being homicidal, genocidal, suicidal, and death-defying in the ring, Sabu is synonymous with extreme wrestling. In the original ECW, Sabu would become a two-time World Heavyweight Champion and would hold the World Tag Team Championships three times, twice with RVD and once with Taz. Sabu was also part of the first year of the relaunched ECW when WWE brought the company back as a brand in 2006.

Last year, Sabu would arrive in AEW as an ally of Adam Cole. The Devil was feuding with Chris Jericho at the time and Sabu proved to be backup for Cole’s Unsanctioned Match with Jericho at that year’s Double or Nothing event.

Sabu Planning for his Final Match

During a recent edition of the Brisco and Bradshaw podcast, Sabu admitted that he wants to wrestle again but is only seeking one more match before he calls it a career.

“I’m actually hopefully setting up for my final match. I wanna do maybe a final match maybe in July or later. A real final match. Just one more pay-off.”

There’s no word on who Sabu will be facing in this final match if it happens at all. Last June, Sabu said he’d love to face Brock Lesnar in his final match. Sabu explained that Lesnar does stuff he doesn’t, and he does stuff Brock doesn’t, which would make the pair gel in the ring.

Could Sabu soon receive one of the highest honors WWE can bestow on a wrestler…

Paul Heyman Names Two ECW Legends Who Should Be In WWE Hall of Fame

Paul Heyman has two names in mind as far as ECW legends who should be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame go.

Heyman once ran the show for ECW, so he knows a thing or two about some of the legends to have come from the promotion. Of all the names he could list, Heyman has two in mind who he feels should be in the WWE Hall of Fame.

Paul Heyman’s Hall Of Fame Picks

Serving as a guest on the Battleground Podcast, Paul Heyman shared his take on why Sabu and Joey Styles are his picks for the WWE Hall of Fame (via Wrestling Inc).

“I would say Sabu definitely belongs in the WWE Hall Of Fame. Because I think the concepts that Sabu was introducing, were 20 years ahead of its time. And I don’t just mean the breaking of the tables. I mean just the manner in which he performed in the ring was so far ahead of its time that he never got the credit he deserved.

“I would say Joey Styles was a very progressive announcer that no one understood just how valuable he was to the ECW brand. Because here you had these criminals, and these gangsters and these barroom brawlers and these misfits. Yet you also had these supreme, elite, exquisite technicians. Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, Rey Mysterio, Psychosis, Juventud Guerrera, that came over from Japan or Mexico. We scoured the world for the greatest talent.

“And no American announcer had ever called the moves for what they were, Joey Styles did. Joey Styles ushered out the era of, ‘wow that looked great, here’s a replay,’ and started calling the moves by the names that were associated with the moves. And he was completely different than any other announcer because he did his job solo for so many years. So I would say Joey Styles, absolutely.”

Styles was the voice of ECW known for his signature, “Oh My God!” call. Sabu is a renowned legend all over the world and he was a two-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion.

Both Styles and Sabu worked under the WWE banner but they’re more well-known for their ECW runs.

Sabu On Why He Doesn’t Consider Himself To Be A WWE Star

Sabu is one of the most iconic characters ECW ever produced and one of the most unique aspects of his gimmick was his refusal to do promos or interviews.

However, during a recent appearance on Total Engagement with Matt Koon, the former ECW Champion revealed that being silent wasn’t a part of his gimmick for him and there was a different reason why he never talked.

According to Sabu, he is shy and he can’t really speak in public. When he was a kid he saw all the wrestlers coming out screaming. Seeing it, his mom said to him that he should never do it and so he never did.

Continuing on the topic, the Attitude Era star admitted that not talking hurt him. Everybody wanted him to talk and they thought he was holding up his gimmick but he was just afraid. He went on to claim that he would rather jump off a building then talk in public.

Later in the interview, the Hardcore star also discussed his WWE run in 2006-2007 and claimed that when the company signed him, they promised to keep him just as he was in ECW but they lied.

They started giving him lengthy promos to perform. So when people ask him if he was in WWE he says no. He doesn’t consider himself to be a WWE star because he just stopped by the company and didn’t stick around.

Sabu To Release Autobiography Next Month

Hardcore wrestling legend Sabu will release an autobiography next month. Sabu: Scars, Silence, & Superglue will be officially released in March, though an exact date has yet to be declared.

Sabu: Scars, Silence, & Superglue

Taz and RVD each wrote forewards for the book.

“I have said it before and will say it again, there would be no “TAZ” without Sabu. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him; both for his great legacy as a wrestler and the respect he deserves as the man he is.” – Taz

“Sabu’s autobiography reads like fiction because his story seems so unbelievable, but every word is true! Nephew of the legendary Sheik, a funny intelligent guy who gave more to the business than most ever will, and a man who has both more balls and athleticism than anyone I’ve ever met.” – Raven

Guest passages in the book include a who’s who of ECW legends and wrestling personalities including Bill Alfonso, Tommy Dreamer, Raven, Al Snow, Mikey Whipwreck, Mike Johnson, Justin Credible, Blue Meanie, Don Vega, Mike Johnson, and Kevin Sullivan.

The 54-year-old was recently announced as being in the main event of Impact Wrestling’s United We Stand show on April 4th. He’ll team with Rob Van Dam to take on the Lucha Bros in what’s being billed as an extreme dream match.

Sabu was elected to the 2300 Arena’s “Hardcore Hall of Fame” in 2009.

Lucha Bros Vs RVD & Sabu Booked For Impact United We Stand

Impact Wrestling’s big show over WrestleMania weekend will be United We Stand on April 4th. The Lucha Bros will face RVD & Sabu in the show’s main event. The match was made official during last night’s broadcast of Impact Wrestling on Pursuit and Twitch.

United We Stand will air live and for free on Twitch.Tv/ImpactWrestling.

Sabu commented on the match recently on Twitter:

The Lucha Bros vs RVD & Sabu – United We Stand – April 4th, 2019

“Rob Van Dam and Sabu will face Pentagon Jr. and Fenix in a must see dream match!” an Impact press release for the match reads. “An instant classic if there ever was one! RVD and Sabu return to IMPACT Wrestling. We can’t wait for this tag team clash.”

The show starts at 11 PM from the Rahway Recreation Center in Rahway, New Jersey.

Last month, Impact Wrestling and Major League Wrestling announced they would work together to stagger their shows so fans would be able to attend both:

“Due to the New York curfew preventing us from starting at 11:00 p.m. ET, we have moved our live event to New Jersey,” stated Impact’s Scott D’Amore.

“We want to thank our partners at WrestlePro for facilitating this collaboration on April 4th and also thank House of Glory and stress that we couldn’t make this happen for our great fans without their cooperation.”

Sabu Posts Controversial Tweet About Renee Young

Last night’s episode of Monday Night RAW marked Renee Young’s first as a full-time commentator.

Young was announced as Jonathan Coachman’s replacement at the commentary booth for the red brand. Since the news broke, Young has received a lot of support from the professional wrestling community.

Of course, not all were in favor of the decision it seems. ECW Legend Sabu took to his Twitter account and posted a rather controversial Tweet about Young. Sabu has since deleted the Tweet, but you can check out the screenshot below.

(WARNING: language is explicit)

Sabu

“Lol oh boy I offended some one again .. lol wtf?”

Soon after deleting the Tweet, Sabu followed up with this:

https://twitter.com/TerryBrunk/status/1039537644244365312

When reading the comments, it’s clear that Sabu lost a lot of fans for his remarks. As for Young, she has yet to respond to Sabu’s comments and will likely ignore the matter.

RVD & Sabu On VICE Show, More Success For The Rock, Natalya Working With Popular Trainer

– Former ECW & WWE stars Rob Van Dam and Sabu will be appearing on Thursday’s episode of “Traveling the Stars: Ancient Aliens with Action Bronson and Friends” on VICE’s new VICELAND channel.

– We recently reported that WWE Smackdown Superstar Natalya has been working out to get in better ring shape over the past year. Both Nattie and Alicia Fox sat down to speak with “The National” to discuss their fitness regimen as well as the new era for women in the WWE. Natalya notes that she’s been working with Rob MacIntyre of the “Hard Knocks South” gym, who’s also worked with stars such as John Cena. Natalya had this to say regarding her progress and goals:

“My coach, Rob MacIntyre, trained Olympians and (fellow WWE wrestlers) John Cena, Nikki Bella, Cesaro, and the list goes on. He has helped streamline my workout through an app he’s designed called Mogy. If I have only half an hour, I’ll go into my app find a workout that he’s designed for me and focus on just a few lifts. I’ll focus on doing a few Olympic lifts that work my whole body.

The workout is very important so that I warm-up my body for a match. I’ll go into Rob’s app and I’ll find three lifts I like: I’ll do a clean and jerk combo, I’ll do some Olympic dead lifts and some squats. If I don’t have a lot of time, I won’t lift really heavy, I’ll lift for reps. If I have more time, I lift heavier weights. I have a weightlifting belt I wear. It’s really awesome. The Olympic lift helped me a lot with my in-ring performance. If I only have 30 minutes, Rob recommends low weight and high reps.”

TubeFilter.com listed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s YouTube channel as their “Top Gainer” for the month of July 2016. ECW Icon Needs Surgery, Rob Van Dam Calls On Wrestling Fans For Help (Video)

Above is video of Rob Van Dam asking wrestling fans to help pay for hip surgery for fellow-ECW Original Sabu.

Sabu has been dealing with the hip issues for a few years now, but also has back & shoulder problems. The hip issues are affecting his sleep and walking as he now has a visible limp. He still works indies and is planning on making a full return to the ring once he recovers from surgery.

RVD mentions that Sabu was against asking fans for help and that surgery was a last resort for him, but RVD and some of Sabu’s closest friends created the GoFundMe page anyway. They have a goal of $50,000 and as of this writing, 55 people have raised $1,548.

Sonjay Dutt On Sabu & Raven, TNA’s X-Division, Amazing Red & More

Veteran pro wrestler Sonjay Dutt recently appeared on Main Event Madness Radio to discuss a number of topics. Below are some of the highlights from the interview:

On working with Amazing Red & early days of the TNA X-Division: “It was great, I was very young. So when you’re young and you’re put in that type of position you know, there really can’t be anything wrong. Everything is cool you’re in a different environment, a lot of fun in those early days in Nashville.”

On his feelings on Sabu & Raven: “I loved it because I was actually one of the biggest ECW fans there ever could be. I was fascinated by ECW. I watched it religiously, everything, anything I could get my hands on. I knew everything about everybody and Sabu was one of those guys I idolized and looked up to growing up watching wrestling. So just getting to work with him was a dream come true.

“[Opinion on Raven] It was awesome. He actually helped get me my job in TNA. He was a big proponent for me, and we had a real good relationship.”

On if the X-Division could’ve helped TNA, and his feelings on how it is today: “Yea absolutely. I think that was one of the main reasons people were watching. It was unlike anything else on television at the time.”

“[On how the X-Division is Today] Yea it’s definitely not what it was. I dont think it ever will be. I dont think they care to make it what it was. You’ve got to enjoy what’s put in front of you i guess.”

Why Hasn’t WWE Tried Promoting A WCW Reunion Show?

E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W!

The chants can still be heard today. In fact, WWE still capitalizes on those three letters to this very day.

For example, last Monday night after RAW, WWE premiered “ECW Exposed” on the WWE Network as part of a full “ECW Week” theme for their digital subscription service.

Next Tuesday night, a second edition of “ECW Exposed” is scheduled to air on the WWE Network.

Hell, this weekend, Tommy Dreamer will be presenting the seventh “House Of Hardcore” event, which is considered by many to be a show with the old “ECW feel” to it.

My question is this, why do we see so many ECW reunion shows, but no WCW reunion shows? I’m assuming it has a lot to do with dollars and cents.

For an ECW reunion show to be held, you need at least some of the following guys: Paul Heyman, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, Taz, Bully Ray, Devon, Terry Funk, The Sandman, Rob Van Dam, Raven and Shane Douglas. Sure, there are many other names you can go with, but you need at least a few of those guys on the event for it to feel like a legitimate ECW reunion show.

For a WCW reunion show to be held, you need at least some of the following guys: Eric Bischoff, Ric Flair, Sting, Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Diamond Dallas Page, Lex Luger, Sid Vicious, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner and Rick Steiner. Again, many names are missing, but the fact remains, the price tags of the key guys needed for an ECW reunion show versus the price tags for a WCW reunion show are world’s apart.

WWE has at different points in time had enough of the aforementioned WCW names under contract, and certainly has enough money to secure the stars they didn’t have at a particular point in time, to put together a legitimate WCW reunion show.

Outside of the financial side of putting together a reunion show for the former two biggest rival promotions to WWE, there is the financial side of how much these shows would generate.

When you compare the amount of DVDs sold between “The Rise & Fall Of ECW” and “The Rise & Fall Of WCW,” again you will notice that they are world’s apart.

When ECW went out of business in 2001 they were still a beloved promotion that just didn’t have the financial backing or television exposure to stay afloat. When WCW went out of business in 2001 they barely had a pulse.

The fan-base for ECW was a rabid, cult-like fan-base that loved their home-promotion dearly. The fan-base for WCW by the time the company folded in 2001 was practically nonexistent.

Still, it feels like there is enough WCW nostalgia for a reunion show to work. Anytime rumors circulate that claim WWE is in negotiations with Goldberg, Sting, or any of the other major names wrestling fans associate with WCW, there is a huge buzz. Fans are excited at the prospect of these guys coming into the current fold and squaring off against today’s crop of WWE Superstars.

Currently, there is a lot of interest in a Sting vs. Undertaker match at WrestleMania. There has been buzz in the recent past about a possible showdown between Goldberg and his modern-day carbon-copy Ryback. There’s even been a lot of interest in “The Hulkster” lacing up his red and yellow boots once more.

If WWE were to sign all of these guys, or ever considered the idea at any point in time, why is it out of the realm of possibility that a WCW reunion show would be a success? Personally, I think it would work, however, I think WWE wants the WCW legacy buried and forgotten, and wants the fans of today to only remember history the way Vince McMahon and company choose to portray it.

Ever watched the “Monday Night War” documentary series on the WWE Network? Right there is a perfect example of the WWE-version of history being told.

The fact is, ECW was never a close second to WWE. They definitely provided a template on how to change the wrestling product into something more modern that fans of that generation soaked up in droves. The fact remains, however, that WCW was kicking WWE’s ass for a lengthy period of time.

Prior to that, when WWE was the top dog, WCW was always nipping at their heels. NWA before WCW was at times a close-second to WWE, and for a long period of time was considered to have the better talent roster. Additionally, NWA would beat WWE in television ratings on a somewhat regular basis before fans really paid attention to TV ratings or considered them any legitimate measure of success, as was the case when the ratings became the focal point of the WWE vs. WCW “Monday Night Wars.”

Outside of WrestleMania once a year, WWE puts on pay-per-views that for the most part feel the same. Nothing seems special or different about them anymore, and the entire idea behind a pay-per-view is to put on an event that feels bigger and more unique than a typical weekly wrestling television program.

Unfortunately, current WWE pay-per-views just feel like a slightly better version of a solid edition of WWE RAW and/or WWE SmackDown, when the company should be striving to put on pay-per-views that feel like “must see” or “can’t miss” programming.

Something tells me if WWE were to book a WCW reunion pay-per-view, if they booked the right guys, it would generate a ton of interest and likely draw a solid buyrate. It would garner interest from fans who escaped the wrestling bubble and moved on with their lives back in 2001 when the only alternative to the WWE-style of wrestling went out of business.

Picture it guys — WCW One Night Stand!

I’d fork out $44.95 and spend three hours of a Sunday evening to watch it.

And something tells me many others would as well.

How about you? Would you be interested in buying a “WCW Reunion” pay-per-view event? Let us know by posting your feedback in the “Comments” section below. You can also connect with me directly on Facebook at Facebook.com/MattBooneWZR and/or on Twitter @MBoone420.

ECW Legend Sabu Advised To Retire, But Claims He Has No Intentions To

Former WWE Superstar and ECW Original Sabu was reportedly advised earlier this month by doctors to retire.

Sabu recently broke several bones in his arm during a match, and due to other issues and a long career of wear-and-tear, he was told that he needs to end his in-ring career this year.

The hardcore legend has continued to wrestle matches on the independent scene, as well as international tours, and has reportedly told friends that he has no intentions of actually retiring from the sport.

  • WWE Website Runs Sabu Feature, Paul Heyman, RVD & Others Comment

The official WWE website recently added a new featured article on ECW original Sabu called, “An extreme revolutionary: How Sabu changed wrestling and everyone forgot.” The article features comments from Paul Heyman, Rob Van Dam, John Cena, Seth Rollins and others.

Below is an excerpt from the article, which features Heyman talking about whether or not Sabu gets the credit he deserves.

“To this day, the innovator is still the master of his craft. When Sabu was at his best, no one could touch him.”

“Whether Sabu gets the credit in history he deserves, the answer is no. But who do you blame for that? Do you blame the curator of the industry, WWE, for not acknowledging the contributions that Sabu made? Do you blame Sabu for not staying healthy enough to force history to acknowledge his contributions? Do you blame the audience who only sings the praises of Sabu crashing through tables, and not all the many other ways Sabu was so unique at his height?”

“The reality of history is that others will take snippets of the style, incorporate it into another groundbreaking presentation and then get credit for implementing a new way to bring sports-entertainment to the masses.”

  • Edge Working On Second Autobiography, How Old Is Rey Mysterio?, New WWE Announcer On Twitter, Be A Star

    – WWE Hall of Famer Adam “Edge” Copeland has indicated that he is working on an autobiography.

When asked on Twitter if he plans to write a second book, The Rated-R Superstar replied, “Workin on it.”

His first autobiography, Adam Copeland on Edge, was released in 2004. Unlike most wrestlers who used “ghostwriters” to write their biographies, Copeland wrote the entire book himself, in longhand. Mick Foley, who also wrote his wrestling autobiography himself in longhand, wrote the foreword to his book.

    – Wednesday marks as WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio’s birthday as the three-time world champion turns 38-years-old. Also celebrating birthdays are Sabu, who turns 48, and “King of Diamonds” Eddie Kingston, who turns 30.

    – Tony Dawson, who joined WWE as an announcer in August, is now on Twitter at TonyDawsonWWE. The former lead announcer for St. John’s TV network at St. John’s University is the host of Saturday Morning Slam and Afterburn, and is an occasional color commentator on NXT.

Punk Ripped Over Jones Comments, Sabu Added To WWE.com

    – Colin Cowherd slammed professional wrestling and CM Punk Thursday on ESPN Radio over Twitter remarks the WWE Champion made concerning Nike’s endorsement deal with mixed martial artist Jon “Bones” Jones.

The outspoken radio personality labeled wrestlers as “roided freaks” and said they have no right to talk about morals due to the industry’s staggering number of premature deaths. Cowherd also alluded to Owen Hart falling to his death at a WWE event in 1999, stating, “A wrestler died in the ring and they just rolled him out and kept going.” Cowherd then ran down Punk and his penchant for tattoos. The diatribe lasted approximately ten minutes.

Punk stated last night immediately following the endorsement announcement, “Let’s reward more drunk drivers with endorsement deals! #responsibility.” He was referring to Jon’s DUI conviction, stemming from a May 19 incident in which Jones drunkenly crashed his Bentley into a utility pole.

    – WWE.com has added Sabu to its Alumni section. Though he is best known for his “trailblazing hardcore style” in Extreme Championship Wrestling, the death-defying wrestler appeared for WWE in 2006 and 2007.
